Equine Tension Release Therapy (ETRT)

Why Work With Me?

Here is a brief overview of how a treatment with SJ’s Equine Bodyworks could help your horse.

Is your horse experiencing one of the following?

  • Struggling to take the correct lead
  • Stepping short
  • Cross-Firing
  • Change in behaviour e.g. sour, grumpy, not willing to move forward
  • Started to pigroot out of the blue
  • Not as flexible as you would like in the neck or overall flexion in turns

A bodywork session can assist with any of the above symptoms and more, as a treatment looks at what is going on with your horse’s muscles and fascia and how your horse’s movement is being affected.

IN A NUTSHELL...

Your horse's muscles are wrapped in fascia. If the facia is being restricted in some way, then most likely your horse’s movement won’t be free and flowing. When fascia is tight it can create soreness and tension in the body, which then can lead to the symptoms listed above.

Healthy fascia needs to be soft and supple for the muscles to relax and work to their full potential. Once this happens, your horse will experience relief and will regain their mobility and flexion.

About Equine Tension Release Therapy (ETRT)

As outlined by Alistair Brooks “ETRT is a natural, holistic way of treating horses who are structurally stiff and sore and present as being tense, irritable, sour, nervous or just generally out of sorts and unwilling to work.  ETRT is a non-invasive technique involving the application of pressure and movement with the fingers, thumbs and heels of the hands at specific points on the body of the horse so as to reduce significantly if not entirely, acute or chronic patterns of tension.

The practice of ETRT involves making pre-determined, systematic sequences of cross-fibre moves on the soft tissue of the horse’s body, that is, across the longitudinal bands of the muscles, tendons and ligaments as well as on the connective tissue, which is known as fascia”.

I have been using Sarah since August 2022. My stallion reacts negatively to the smallest pain and takes constant management. I have used other amazing body workers in the Tamworth area, however I have found Sarah has been the most effective at getting his issues straightened out. Aside from being fabulous at her job, Sarah builds a beautiful connection with the horse and they melt into her.

Sarah is always on time and is easy to book in with.

Sarah has been working on my horses since 2015. I have riding horses and Clydesdales that are shown in harness, led classes, ridden and compete in ploughing competitions.

Whether it’s following an injury or in preparation for a show, Sarah plays a critical part of keeping my horses supple.

I ask a lot of my horses physically and mentally. I’m always seeking that little bit more suppleness, kindness and movement from all my horses, and I believe Sarah helps me to achieve this by the work she does on releasing tension, correcting muscle alignment and relaxing my horses before and after an event.

Sarah is reliable, kind, gentle, knowledgeable and plays a critical role in keeping my horses at the peak performance level I need.  I highly recommend Sarah to work on your horses too. Not only will you thank her, but so will your horses.

Prior to Sarah working on my horse, he was not giving me 100% when turning to the near side and short on all gaits. Bandit is a unique horse in that he generally needs to be warmed up and trotted out before an event.

After a session with Sarah he was ready to go, no warmup needed and totally feeling free in all gaits. There was a vast improvement in his athletic ability in a short period of time.
